Nautical adventures and private escapes

Barbary Ghost is the San Francisco Bay Area's original SUP boat offering stand up paddleboard tours. The boat serves as a shuttle and floating base station equipped with padded SUP racks and swim deck, changing room, restroom, dry storage area, fly bridge, field repair tools, first-aid kit, and complimentary water, energy bars, and guest towels. Barbary Ghost has been at the forefront of the Bay's downwind SUP scene since 2013 and continues to search for the best routes and most efficient practices to take the sport to higher levels.  Choose from Scenic Tours or Downwind Safaris below.  Trips posted on our Events Calendar allow for individual registration.  Private charters are available seven days a week on request.

Experience the thrill of surfing wind waves with the safety, convenience, and comfort of a professional support boat.  A boat shuttle from Berkeley Marina delivers paddlers to the best downwind route available based on current conditions.  Barbary Ghost screens for traffic, ensures that paddlers are on course for the take-out, and shoots video of the adventure - leaving paddlers with nothing to worry about but catching the next glide.  At the end of the run paddlers climb aboard for the shuttle back upwind and a chance to rest, grab water and a snack, and hit the restroom before the next run.

New to downwinding?  The Downwind Safari RECON offers a 30 minute hands-on introduction to downwinding in flat water and a short warm-up downwinder before heading out on the boat to line up a beginner-friendly run.
